Summer Blast
By Kyle T.

On Wednesday, June 3, the ESR Team Council hosted the third annual "Bring a Friend" picnic. We had fun.

The picnic was held at the park next to Boutwell's Landing (Autumn Park). The group of people took trash bags and gloves so they could do a quick park clean-up before the festivities. ESR has joined the Adopt-a-Park Program and the group worked hard to make our park spotless.

Advocacy is important to the Team Council, it is what we are all about. So at our "Bring a Friend" picnic, we invited two people to speak to us. Both speakers were from ESR in Forest Lake or Cottage Grove.

The first speaker was Amy from Cottage Grove. She spoke to us about an Advocacy Conference she went to and read us a poem that she wrote. She said that the conference taught her a lot about rights. One of the rights Amy told us about was the right to be safe.

Our other speaker, Tim, talked to us about safety, especially around cars. I even got to help him with holding up his safety posters.

Then we ate our lunches before enjoying the nice weather. Some people played soccer, basketball or kickball while others walked on the park trail. We all had a great time chatting with one another.

At the end of the day, we even got to practice our safety skills. The monthly tornado sirens went off in our community. So we all sheltered in the bathrooms to practice our safety drill. I am happy to report we all did a good job and stayed safe!
