The Team Council learns about fire safety
By Kyle T.

On August 27, 2008, the ESR Team Council visited the White Bear Lake Fire Department to learn about home fire safety. Fire Chief Mike Turnbull spoke to us and gave usa tour of the fire trucks. He showed us the different equipment on the trucks and gear that firefighters use. We saw ladders, axes, chain saws, crowbars and water hoses to put the fire out.
One thing I learned about was home fire safety. Mike told us that smoke rises, filling ar oom higher up by the ceiling, so to get out safely, we need to crawl under the smoke because it is hot. We do not want to get burned. We also learned that if we catch on fire we need to "stop, drop and roll." It is also a really good idea to have a smoke detector in your bedroom.
When Mike was talking he showed us the gear that firefighters use. It protects them from the smoke and fire. I think the helmets are really cool. The helmets firefighters wear can be different colors like red, black, orange, yellow or blue. Each color means a different job. I would want to have a blue helmet for safety and my job coaches can have a yellow helmet meaning they are rookies.
After our tour of the fire station, the Team Council members from Stillwater, Cottage Grove and Forest Lake all went out to lunch at McDonalds. We visited and had a fun time.
