In-kind donations
Donations are not always in the form of money. A meaningful donation can be in the form of a new or gently used item that is in good condition.

Please check with us before you make your donation to ensure we can put the item to use.

To determine if the item you are considering for donation matches a current need at ESR, please contact Executive Director Ed Boeve, 651-351-0190, or eboeve@esrworks.org

Donations to the agency fund:

  • Transportation: Many of our consumers do not drive, making their lack of transportation a barrier to meaningful employment. ESR maintains a fleet of 35 vehicles to ensure no one is denied an opportunity to work because of a lack of transportation.

  • Programming: As government funding shrinks, there are fewer resources available to sustain programs that help consumers find jobs, integrate into the community, gain new skills and so on. Your donations help maintain programs that allow adults with disabilities to work in supported employment and participate fully in their community.
  • Technology: ESR is a nonprofit, but it must work with and compete in today's business world for skilled employees, funding, and more. Office equipment, current computer systems and software are all vital to keeping the agency viable in today's business environment.
  • Service expansion: ESR serves more than 300 consumers -- more than at any other time in its history. The growing demand comes at a time when government resources are shrinking, leaving a funding gap the agency must fill.

Donors' support is vital for ESR programs

Financial resources are shrinking as rising costs outpace funding from state and federal sources, which were cut by more than 2.5 percent in 2009. Each year it becomes more and more challenging to provide staff and resources to fully meet our consumers' needs.

Donations from individuals, like you, are vital to keeping the agency financially strong and able to meet the growing demand for services.

A gift at any level enables ESR to provide the support and services necessary so that people with developmental disabilities have the transportation, programming and support they need to participate fully in their community through gainful employment and integration opportunities.

Basic tax guidelines
(ESR is not a tax expert; the following is not to be considered tax advice. Before making any decisions on donations, we encourage you to seek the advice of a financial manager or tax advisor.)

To be considered eligible for a tax deduction by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), charitable giving (referred to here as "donation") must meet the following criteria:

  • The giver must make the donation to a nonprofit designated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) corporation.
  • The giver must intend to make the donation with no expectation of anything in return.
  • The giver may designate how the donation is used, but may not control when the donation is used.
  • The giver's right to receive goods/services in return for the donation reduces the amount of tax deduction by the value of the goods and services received
